Dr. Marco Trienes has been serving as Managing Director of Wirtschaftsförderung Münster GmbH (WFM) since 1 March 2026.
Trienes studied economic geography, specialising in regional economic analysis and business development, at RWTH Aachen University.
Until 2017, he was a research assistant at the Chair of Economic Geography, during which time he also completed his PhD. He then moved to Wuppertal Economic Development Agency, where his roles included serving as interim director. In 2023, he took up his post as managing director of Paderborn Economic Development Agency and TechnologieParkPaderborn GmbH.
As Managing Director of WFM, Trienes will be responsible for the promotion, maintenance and expansion of Münster as a business location – both nationally and internationally. WFM, a company in which the city holds a majority stake, specialises in providing start-up, development and location consultancy services to businesses. The company supports entrepreneurs and businesses in their further development and handles key tasks relating to location marketing, innovation management, attracting businesses to the economic region, and providing advice on securing a skilled workforce.
In addition to this role, Dr. Marco Trienes also serves as managing director of the affiliated companies Technologieförderung Münster GmbH, Nano-Bioanalytik-Zentrum GmbH and CeNTech GmbH.
